Most are gvf one or two (1874 and 1873) are close to EF the rest GF.All are London mint except 1881 Melbourne.

S3852 for type.An extremely rare Spanish Platinum counterfeit Sovereign of Queen Victoria dated 1872.Very little is in fact known about these counterfeits except that they were made in Spain between about 1860 until 1880.They were struck in Platinum which at the time was cheaper than gold.The coins were subsequently gold plated and the end result was a almost perfect English Sovereign.Four dates have been recorded 1861,1862,1870 and 1872 all by G.P.Dyer curator and Librarian at the Royal Mint.We were able to buy two coins recently one dated 1862 and this a 1872 Sovereign die 29.As most were gold plated at the time of production very few in the original Platinum state have actually been recorded.The practice apparently stopped when the price of Platinum exceeded that of Gold.
