S3999. Underrated
by many catalogues,only M.Marsh rates it S (scarce).The mintage was a
very low 514,000 which is lower than the 1920M I have on offer.This was
the beginning of the Great Recession and people could not afford Gold
Sovereigns as currency so it was poorly received and almost the entire
production was melted down.A very few of course escaped as did others
from other years and the whole process has produced some of the rarest
Sovereigns of the entire series.The coin is better than EF and has
peripheral mint lustre.I note a GEF specimen made £710 recently in an
auction.

S3999. A great rarity of the Melbourne,Australia Mint.Only about 530,000 examples were minted however most were melted down as the public was caught in the Great recession and responded poorly.In fact this is the case for most Melbourne mint Sovereigns which in turn has produced some of the rarest Sovereigns of the entire series. Better than EF,R2 by M.Marsh (underrated in my opinion especially in this hot Sovereign market) and perhaps the only specimen available on the market at present.
